Seeing South Beach

Looking for a little surf, sand and fun in the sun? If so, South Beach, Florida might just be for you! However, if you’re planning a trip to South Beach, it’s a good idea to make a list of all the places you want to see and all the things you want to do before you arrive. South Beach has a number of things you’ll want see, so be sure to have your camera ready at all times to take photos of some of these amazing places.

If you’re into architecture, there are a number of amazing old hotels in South Beach. Many of these buildings are done in an art deco style, creating a very unique and distinct skyline in the city. All you have to do is walk around the Art Deco Historic District to find many of these sites, including the Carlyle Hotel. You may have actually seen the Carlyle before, as it’s been featured in a number of movies, including Scarface. Unfortunately, the Carlyle has been converted into private condos instead of serving as a hotel, so you can’t actually go inside, but you can still enjoy the fabulous exterior.

Of course, there are a number of other old hotels in the area. The National Hotel hosts many international fashion events, and the Ritz Carlton is located right next to it. The Colony Hotel is another hotel that often appears in photographs and movies, especially at night when its many neon lights set the skyline ablaze. Another site to check out is the Casa Casuarina, the former home of Gianni Versace. Versace was killed here in 1997, giving the mansion an interesting – if gruesome – history.

If walking through this area isn’t for you, you can also look into taking a South Beach air tour. This tour sends you up in a small plane to fly over the arts district, as well as the rest of South Beach and Miami as well. There’s nothing quite like seeing a place from the air, especially when that place is bordered by a gorgeous ocean and many amazing beaches.

The beach, of course, is another thing you’ll want to see when you’re in South Beach. Be sure to schedule some time on the beach for playing in the waves, sunbathing, or building a sand caste. The beaches there are simply amazing, and no trip to the area is complete without some R&R in the sun.

There are also a number of different restaurants in the area – in fact, there are over a dozen blocks of places to eat, so you’re sure to find something to enjoy. Many people, though, don’t enjoy the fact that hostesses often shove menus at passersby as they walk past, scoping out the restaurants. A simple, “no, thanks” often doesn’t work, either. However, once you get past that, the restaurants themselves serve some outstanding meals, great desserts, and many different drinks. Some, like Cardoza, are even owned by celebrities – Gloria Estafan in this case.

It doesn’t matter if you’re in South Beach for the history, the art, the food, or the beaches – you’ll have a great time no matter what. With such a variety of experiences to be had in the area, everyone will find something to do and enjoy.
